Verizon's lost their network advantage and had to cave-in on unlimited data. Verizon is losing customers to smaller wireless carriers like T-Mobile and Sprint Corp., which has been aggressively pushing unlimited plans as more people read video and photos via social media networks.
T-Mobile and its CEO John Legere are pushing again on price.
T-Mobile said starting Friday, it will offer HD video streaming and 10GB of high speed hotspot data access in addition to its existing plan, called T-Mobile One. T-Mobile also did away with taxes and surcharges as additional fees on its unlimited plans last month. For instance, Sprint is now running a limited time promotion that offers unlimited talk, text and data for $50 per month for one line or $90 monthly for five lines. Promo lines priced $10 will receive $10 credit; free lines ineligible.
Your move, Verizon. Your move. This is undoubtedly a direct response to Verizon Unlimited, and it now evens out the feature set between Verizon Unlimited and T-Moible One with the latter still retaining overall lower monthly costs.
At the introductory rate, it's also a little cheaper than AT&T's unlimited data offering for TV subscribers, which is $60 per month, plus $40 per line. "Everything we've done is to provide the best experience on the best network - and we've built it for the future, not just for today", said Ronan Dunne, president of Verizon's wireless division. You can compare each carrier's unlimited plan in the chart provided below. If customers use more than 22 gigabytes of data in a month, their speeds may be slowed if the network is busy. You must enroll in auto-pay to get those prices and they do not include fees.
And as with all new plan promotions, new and current customers can also get free smartphones with a trade-in by moving to Verizon's unlimited plan (with a monthly charge for the phone being offset by a monthly credit for the trade-in).
Here are a few things to know about the Verizon Unlimited Plan.
AT&T: Unlimited data is only offered to to grandfathered customers who had it before they dropped the plans and customers who bundle it with DirecTV.
