The FBI has arrested a white supremacist who allegedly planned to carry out a Dylann Roof-style massacre against a SC synagogue.
McDowell first met with the undercover Federal Bureau of Investigation agent on January 12, believing that the agent "handled problems for the Aryan Nations", the court document states.
McDowell has been arrested several times since 2007, and has connections to white supremacist organizations from his time in SC prisons, according to the New York Daily News.
"If I could do something on a fucking big scale and write on the fucking building or whatever, 'In the spirit of Dylann Roof, '" McDowell allegedly said.

McDowell did not seem to have chosen a specific plan of attack.
"I got the heart to do that sh*t, but I don't have to the good training", he allegedly said. Before committing the massacre, Roof posted a racist manifesto online detailing his hatred of black people and others, and proclaiming his need to act on behalf of the white race. The agent told McDowell that he had to make sure that their connection stayed secret, and that whatever McDowell planned to do "doesn't come back to me".
Benjamin McDowell is charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.
A message sent from his Facebook messenger account the next day showed a request for an "iron", a coded term for a gun. "I want to do that s-", McDowell told the undercover employee, according to a criminal complaint.
Around Jan. 25, the document says he posted on Facebook the following statement: "Clean up world jewelry in the name of Yahweh".
A S.C. Law Enforcement Division background check on McDowell indicates he received a suspended sentence and was put on probation in 2009 after a felony third degree burglary charge and a misdemeanor charge of attempted burglary.
McDowell also allegedly said during the meeting: "I'm wanting to do this shit, and I got the heart to do this", the document states.
"I wish the day we all get off Facebook and white Warriors like we was born to be like Dylan [sic] roof be we gotta do it in a smart way." he later wrote.
His plan ran into some other logistical problems along the way: his mother wouldn't let him use her cellphone, and he had to borrow money from his grandfather to buy a weapon from the undercover Federal Bureau of Investigation agent he thought was a member of the Aryan Nations. Additionally, McDowell said he would like hollow-point ammunition for the gun.
At the time of his arrest, McDowell was in the parking lot of a Myrtle Beach Hampton Inn holding a bag.
