Amid questions about Ivanka Trump's role in her father's White House administration, the first daughter is moving into her own office in the West Wing, the Washington Post and Politico are reporting. (Has anyone heard from Melania recently?) Now, Ivanka will have a West Wing office of her own, government-issued electronic devices, and access to classified information-despite not actually having, you know, an actual defined role in the government. Though she is not an official government employee, Ivanka will be following the same ethics and rules that apply to government employees, according to Gorelick.
"Ivanka created the trust to separate herself from the business and implement controls and processes that facilitate compliance with ethical requirements", Gorelick said.
Ivanka Trump may have distanced herself from the company that bears her name, but a new lawsuit claims the company still has an unfair advantage because of it. Her husband, Jared Kushner, a man whose parents probably bought his way into Harvard, is a senior advisor to the President, after all.
A person with knowledge of Ivanka Trump's thinking, who requested anonymity to discuss private conversations, said she believes she can offer more independent perspective to her father by not serving as a White House staffer.
Shortly after, the director of the Office of Government Ethics stated that Conway's comments were in "clear violation" of rules against the misuse of an official position.
She wore a black jersey jacket with white piping and matching tracksuit bottoms, and added a pair of large gold and tortoise shell sunglasses to complete the look.
Ethics watchdogs are questioning the potential conflicts of interest and violations of anti-nepotism laws that normally prevent relatives from being appointed to government positions.
FBI Director James Comey also said the FBI has "no information" that supports Trump's unsubstantiated claims that President Obama tapped Trump's phones in Trump Tower during the election. Last month, after the retailer Nordstrom cut ties with Ivanka Trump clothing, White House senior adviser Kellyanne Conway drew criticism after telling television viewers during a news interview to buy Ivanka's goods, a statement that appears to have caused a spike in sales. She introduced her father when he accepted the GOP's nomination for president on the final night of the Republican National Convention in July.
