Louis C.K. made headlines previous year after he sent an email disparaging then-presidential candidate Donald Trump and calling him "Hitler". In an interview with Colbert, C.K. said, "He's just a gross, crook, dirty, rotten, lying sack of s***". "Hitler was just some hilarious and refreshing dude with a weird comb-over who would say anything at all". He also said he has a new take on Trump.
Host Stephen Colbert asked the comedian about an email he sent to fans last March, in which he compared Trump to Hitler.
The comedian said he doesn't take back what he said and that regretting it doesn't mean it's not true, he just didn't realize how many people were going to read what he wrote. The Emmy victor broke down the food chain of liars, beginning with someone who got caught in a lie and ending up at the president. "Wasn't even true. Then I said, 'They were liars'".
"I don't think his name is Donald Trump, I honestly don't", Louis joked.
After Colbert singled out a Trump supporter in the audience, C.K. merely described him as a victim of his lying. He likes it. He goes, 'It wasn't even true.
Over the past year or so, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert has seen a bump in ratings thanks to its constant trolling of President Donald Trump, before and after he was sworn in. They just lie. They like it. "There's a difference. I regret saying it".
