The first, as some of you might remember, was the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7 from a year ago. Fortunately, those who pre-order from carriers have their own special deals.
Samsung said that Galaxy S8 users will be able to make financial transactions and authentification more easily compared with past devices by making use of the built-in iris-scanning function, it said.
In its native South Korea, pre-orders surpassed 600,000 units in just five days.
Some investors and analysts believe the S8 could set a first-year sales record for Samsung, Reuters reports. Unfortunately, however, the company has announced that the voice control feature of its smart assistant, Bixby, will not ship with it.
The Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus feature something called Infinity Display. It is said that LG is also working on one and that we might also see it this year. In an official tweet this morning, Samsung will be "unboxing" its Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus on the 19 of April, 2017.
The new smartphones are being closely watched because these devices mark the first major launch by Samsung after the devastating battery issues that forced the company to recall the Note7 and stop its production altogether in October past year.
It seems Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus units will be coming with a reward eCertificate of $100 from Samsung.
The Samsung S8 comes will be available with either a 5.8-inch screen (the S8) or a larger 6.2-inch screen (the S8 Plus).
Samsung said it will expand the eco-system of the Galaxy 8 series by beefing up cooperation with companies and rolling out various gadgets linked to the smartphone.
Additionally, we've also seen reports that demand for the premium-priced S8 Plus has been stronger than what Samsung was expecting, even prompting the company to boost S8 Plus production as a result. So if the smallish battery capacities on the S8 and S8 Plus are not getting your juices flowing perhaps the Galaxy S8 Active will. Presumably it will also offer up charging capabilities, but other than that we doubt it will offer up spectacular sound or anything, but hey a freebie is a freebie, can't really complain!
