Payne's Valley at Big Cedar Lodge Resort is a 19-hole course that pays tribute to the late Payne Stewart, a three-time major victor who was born in nearby Springfield, in Southwest Missouri.
Woods was guest of honour at Big Cedar Lodge in Missouri to unveil plans for his first public course design.
TGR Design company is also designing a par-3 short course at Big Cedar Lodge for beginners and kids.
Woods shared a long embrace and chat with Tracey Stewart before the announcement began, and spoke of how much having Stewart's name on the course means to him.
The course is expected to open in 2019. Yet, they are all in their prime, at the peak of their game, and with Woods being 41, at least 10 years older than most of the top players in the world, does he really stand a chance? Everyone knows that I'm pretty dedicated to the things I care about.
"I have good days and bad days", said Woods.
Veteran Woods watchers, recalling his triple-dunk at last year's exhibition at Congressional, had butterflies, even if the 14-time major champion did not.
"I have to make sure I don't screw this up", Woods said in announcing "Payne's Valley", a new 18-hole course adjacent to the Buffalo Ridge site and the newest part of the Big Cedar Lodge stable of courses south of Branson.
Tiger Woods, Johnny Morris and Tom Lehman sit in front of what will soon be the 19th hole at Payne's Valley. "So to design a public course is near and dear to my heart". It was really cool to go and play a country club because the greens were so nice and manicured and I had never seen anything like it. "That's where I learned how to play". Woods' TGR Design is collaborating with Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris and the Payne Stewart family on the project.
