TCL Announces BlackBerry KEYone Android Smartphone Availability

BlackBerry KeyOne now available in the UK, exclusively from Selfridges

The few BlackBerry fans in North America will have to wait a little longer than expected for the company's KeyOne smartphone. However, a new report points to an official statement from TCL stating that the smartphone will be available in the USA and Canada starting 31 May.

After a long wait, TCL has finally announced the launch date for the BlackBerry KeyOne for the United States and Canada markets. It has selected TCL as its global licensing partner which means that TCL is now going to develop and sell BlackBerry-branded handsets. Carphone Warehouse is also reported to begin selling the device on May 5, 2017, with carrier availability expanding throughout May.

After a brief delay, TCL Communication and BlackBerry Limited are almost ready to begin taking preorders for the BlackBerry KEYone smartphone. The 35-key keyboard has a built-in backlight for low-light usage, and now has a fingerprint sensor cleverly located in the space bar.

BlackBerry launched the KEYone smartphone today (April 27) at Selfridges in London. Only this time, the device runs on the Android platform.

Keyboard addicts can get the phone in just over a month.

Featuring the largest battery ever found in a BlackBerry smartphone, the BlackBerry KEYone offers all-day use and then some, with up to 26+ hours of mixed use, thanks to the 3505mAh battery. As with its previous Android handsets, BlackBerry's DTEK software is in place, adding a convenient layer of permissions visibility and control across all applications. It is backed up by a 3505 mAh battery and has QuickCharge 3.0 with a "Boost" charging feature that gives 50 percent charge in "roughly 36 minutes". The device has a 12MP primary camera and a front-facing lens with an 8MP sensor.

BlackBerry KEYone is going to be the last smartphone designed by BlackBerry, as in September past year the company had announced to give away the license for designing and producing smartphones to its partner TCL.

BlackBerry enthusiasts in the U.S. will have to wait until May 31 to order the upcoming smartphone.
