North Korea's Latest Missile Never Even Made It Out of Korea

Sen. Chris Coons slams Trump's North Korea tweet

He called the North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un "a pretty smart cookie" for being able to hold onto power after taking over the reclusive Asian nation at a young age. And he was able to do it.

North Korea test-fired a ballistic missile on Saturday shortly after U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson warned that failure to curb Pyongyang's nuclear and ballistic missile programs could lead to "catastrophic consequences".

A U.S. official said the ballistic missile, thought to be a mid-range KN-17, was sacked from a location in the South Pyeongan province in the early hours of Saturday morning local time.

North Korea developing missile weapons and nuclear weapons capabilities are both threatening.

North Korea said the bombers conducted "a nuclear bomb dropping drill against major objects" in its territory at a time when Trump and "other USA warmongers are crying out for making a preemptive nuclear strike" on the North.

But asked about the possibility of a U.S. strike, he would not be drawn saying it was a "chess game" which he hoped could be resolved without military action. And I can tell you also, I don't believe that the president of China, who is a very respected man, will be happy either, ' he went on. His comments were in response to North Korea's test launch of another ballistic missile on Saturday, in the regime's latest show of defiance against global pressure.

An embassy official said Mike Pompeo and his wife were in the South Korean capital on Monday, but would not say for how long.

It may mean ratcheting up those sanctions even further. He added: "It is a chess game". But we'll see what happens.

Refusing to elaborate on United States military options because "we shouldn't be announcing all our moves", Mr Trump added: "It is a chess game". "Eventually, he will have a better delivery system". "The time has come for all of us to put new pressure on North Korea to abandon its unsafe path".

"Now, if China can help us with North Korea and can solve that problem - that's worth making not as good a trade deal for the United States", he said. The U.S. and South Korea also started installing a missile defense system that is supposed to be partially operational within days and their two navies are staging joint military drills.

Trump has sent a nuclear-powered submarine and an aircraft carrier to Korean waters.

It flew for several minutes and reached a maximum height of 44 miles before it apparently failed.
