Waraich has resigned from the primary membership of the party, expressing displeasure over the process of Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann's appointment as the new state unit chief.

The parliamentarian from Sangrur continued, "Ghuggi joined the party when it was at the peak and he left it when the party lost the polls. Now he raises question about it".

He lashed out at AAP national leaders for not taking Punjab leaders into confidence while taking major decisions.

Gurpreet Waraich also said that the AAP leadership was miffed with him because be refused to come to Delhi and campaign for the municipal corporation elections in Rajouri Garden.

"My opposition is to the process of appointing the new convenor". "Also, a convenor I kept asking the party leaders in Delhi to show me the video on basis of which Sucha Singh Chottepur had been thrown out of the party". "If AAP really wanted to give (Mr Mann) the responsibility of the state unit, then it could have waited for at least three months to ensure that he quits drinking", he said yesterday.

Ghuggi was appointed as the convener of the party's Punjab unit ahead of the Assembly elections in the state.

He further said that former Congress MLA Sukhpal Khaira or Dharamvira Gandhi were better candidates for the post, reported Hindustan Times. He said, "For Punjab, Punjabiyat whatever needs to be done, I will do that, but this party has deviated from its principles and it has become hard for me to continue with this party". None of the senior leaders from Delhi including Arvind Kejriwal has visited Punjab after the Assembly elections. "For Punjab, Punjabiyat whatever needs to be done, I will do that, but this party has deviated from its principles and it has become hard for me to continue with this party".

Even as dissenting voices rose against the top leadership, the party took another drastic step and expelled senior leader, Upkar Singh Sandhu for "anti-party" activities.

Asked whether Mr Ghuggi's exit would be a loss to AAP, Mr Mann replied, "Parties are above individuals".

Mann was appointed as the chief of AAP's Punjab unit on May 8 at a meeting of the AAP Political Affairs Committee.

"I think with election conducted with pick and choose policy, injustice has been done to Punjab and Punjabiyat", Ghuggi said adding that the volunteers were not involved. He said that majority of them recommended name of Bhagwant Mann for this post. He said he didn't have any position in AAP but was a volunteer.
