GOP health proposal would hurt millions

They can afford the best medical care for whatever happens without even worrying about insurance. Leaders appointed the 13-man working group late last week to begin crafting the Senate's version. And the lack of diversity had drawn criticism.

Like Trump's proposal on tax reform, the revised bill, which had failed on a previous vote, is a windfall for the wealthy and bad blow to the indigent and elderly.

"We're starting over from a clean sheet of paper here", said Sen. "Nobody's being excluded based on gender".

But, the new American Health Care Act, which is the bill that just passed the House and moves to the Senate, would cut $800 billion from Medicaid over 10 years and result in a loss of at least $40 billion in federal funding for Medicaid in IL, according to Chicago Women Take Action. On television talk shows and congressional town hall meetings, meanwhile, attention on the GOP drive to repeal Obama's law showed no signs of fading. Ron Johnson (R-Wisc.) said. "We've included tax credits to provide flexible payment options and given states the authority to modernize and strengthen Medicaid". Senators from some of the 31 states that enlarged their programs want to prevent an abrupt cutoff of that money.

"McConnell stood up and said, 'Please come and participate, '" Sen. "On health care, what he wanted was the taxes out and he wanted to get rid of the mandate (requiring people to buy coverage), but he wanted to keep all the goodies", Nunberg told the Washington Post.

But the health care debate has already produced a political miracle: It has made Obamacare broadly popular for nearly the first time in its seven-year existence. Since about three-fourths of Americans, according to polling, don't want insurance to be priced out of the range of those who are ill, the Republicans are vulnerable on this point, and they know it. This is an irresponsible and costly move that will do little more than create instability in the insurance market and greatly reduce the ability of small business owners, their employees and self-employed Americans to obtain health coverage. Fifty-two percent said they disapproved of the tax plan, while just 30% approved.

Before the Affordable Care Act, insurance companies denied coverage or charged more if the person who wanted insurance had any of a long list of conditions - including arthritis, diabetes heart disease, muscular dystrophy, obesity and sleep apnea, according to a list compiled by the Kaiser Family Foundation from insurers' underwriting guidelines.

Although senators have suggested they're starting from scratch, it's unknown if they'll draw any inspiration from the House bill.
