ICE arrests more than 1000 people in targeted gang operation

ICE announces largest anti-gang crackdown in agency history

The six-week operation was part of "Community Shield", an anti-gang program launched in 2005, and was lead by ICE's Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) unit in conjunction with state and local agencies.

The majority of the arrests, 1,095, were confirmed by ICE to be gang members or affiliates of a gang, including, 137 affiliated with the Bloods, 118 with the Surenos, 104 with MS-13 and 104 with the Crips.

Three people arrested during this operation previously had DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) status.

ICE said it was targeting gang members and "associates" involved in cross-border criminal activity - including drug and weapons smuggling, sex trafficking and murder. Agents arrested 104 suspected MS-13 members.

"Gangs threaten the safety of our communities, not just in major metropolitan areas but in our suburbs and rural areas too", said acting ICE chief Thomas Homan.

ICE says there were 17 total gang arrests made by the D.C. field office, and 35 made by the Baltimore field office.

Hundreds of gang members have been arrested across the country as a result of a six-week anti-gang operation.

Most recently, Breitbart Texas reported on the continued resettlement of foreign unaccompanied minors into MS-13-prone regions of the USA, despite experts pointing to evidence that this process allows foreign crime syndicates to flourish.

News of ICE's operation came after Attorney General Jeff Sessions threatened to disrupt gang activity.

According to ICE, 280 arrests were soley immigration-related.

Nationwide, the biggest gangs targeted were the Bloods, Sureños, the Crips and MS-13, an global gang with thousands of members in El Salvador, its command center. Authorities arrested ten unaccompanied minors as well, including nine confirmed gang members.

ICE also said that 10 people arrested had entered the USA as unaccompanied minors - and nine of them were gang members.

"The success of this operation is directly attributed to the ongoing collaboration with our federal, state and local law enforcement partners", Brown continued in the press release.
