Players Championship: Ian Poulter seizes second chance as Kim joins exclusive club

"I still can't believe I'm the champion, and I'm the youngest champion", Kim said.

"I still can't believe I'm the champion, and I'm the youngest champion", said Kim.

After winning The Players, Kim left Florida with a cool check for $1,890,000. But it appears he is being responsible and sticking with the rest of us in coach.

Just a few weeks ago Poulter thought he had lost his Tour card, before Brian Gay realised there had been a clerical error which gave both him and Poulter back those cards just a few days later.

Poulter shanked his second shot from the right rough on the 18th, and it bounced off hospitality tents, down a cart path and into a palmetto bush.

Ahead of the tournament, Kim was 500/1 as he saw off the star-studded field at Ponte Vedra Beach to become the youngest Asian two-time PGA Tour victor, with the person - who wishes to remain anonymous - sticking on €100 each way.

Poulter hit what he described as a shank - "You'd like me to spell it for you?" he jokingly asked after his round of 71 - on the 18th hole, took a penalty drop from a palmetto bush, saw a gap in the trees, and hit wedge through it and onto the green, and he came within inches of making it.

"While I was practicing with him, he taught me about the course at the Stadium", Kim said. He needed a circus shot to manage a bogey. And he played like someone that was doing it for five or six years, like it was just another round of golf. "He's just so mentally strong for 21 that you can't really believe that he's 21".

Rafa Cabrera Bello of Spain (70) tied for fourth at 282, four strokes behind Kim.

Holmes shot 40 on the front nine and still had hope until bogeys on the 14th and 15th holes. He made a double-eagle 2 at the 16th, the first ever at the hole during the tournament. The golfer netted nearly $2 million in prize money, a five-year tour exemption and his very own locker at TPC Sawgrass. This victory comes with perks beyond the $1.89 million first prize. Australian Adam Scott, who was 23 when he won in 2004, holds the record for fewest starts (41) on the PGA Tour by an eventual victor of this tournament.

The PGA Championship is the European Tour's flagship event, while the PGA Tour is a season of tournaments played mainly in the United States.

Yet, we might not get to see him for another two years.

He then returned to the Web.com Tour until he locked up his PGA Tour card for the 2015-16 season by finishing 23rd on the 2015 Web.com Tour priority list. He followed with a short birdie on the 17th and a long par from just off the 18th green.
