New HTC Vive Doesn't Require a PC or Phone

Google Daydream

The current collaboration would develop a standalone Daydream VR headset reference design to build more such products.

The move marks a major evolution of Daydream, which launched as a platform for compatible smartphones in October alongside a motion-sensitive controller and phone-cradle headset.

The headset is based around a positional tracking system Google calls WorldSense, which Bavor claimed uses only a handful of internal sensors to provide accurate positioning information for room-scale virtual reality. On-board sensors in the headsets will enable inside-out tracking, which will remove the need to connect to any external hardware.

Along with the web browsing functions, the Chrome integration will give you a shot at watching YouTube videos in all-encompassing VR, providing one of the most immersive platforms to watch amusing cat videos we've seen to date.

During I/O 2017, Google unveiled the first major update for their Daydream VR platform originally introduced a year ago.

Google Daydream No longer a dream but a reality, a new standalone virtual reality headset is coming with Google Daydream baked inside. The trailer puts the viewer in the position of a VR headset user and shows how easily it can be used.

As a result, a software update will be bringing support for Daydream to the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus later in the year. Everything required to deliver a smooth and immersive VR experience will be integrated within the headset. They are free-form and wireless, yet still capable of providing full 360 degree tracking using what Google calls WorldSense.

"We've got to remove more of the friction in using these devices".

Tango is also one of the core technologies behind our new Visual Positioning Service (VPS), which helps devices quickly and accurately understand their location indoors.

According to Lenovo, the VR experiences will be available soon, but developers are still working to unlock features “most consumers have never experienced before.”. "Everything that you need for VR is contained in the headset itself". It works initially with a handful of partner museums and the US DIY store Lowe's.
