Sony Discontinues PlayStation 3 Consoles in Japan

PS Vita Games: PlayStation Plus Free Games June 2017 Predictions.

The PlayStation 3 500GB model was the last one being produced in Japan, and the website now shows shipments for that product as "ended", according to gematsu, which spotted it on the official Japanese PlayStation website. It made flawless sense, taking into consideration how the only remaining unit which was still being produced in the Land of the Rising Sun happens to be the Sony PS3 500GB make.

The last game included in June's PS+ lineup is Spy Chameleon.

The PS3's idiosyncratic Cell microprocessor-powered architecture also hampered adoption: performance of multi-platform games was frequently worse on PS3 than on the Xbox 360, which had launched a year earlier. This could have directly influenced the decision to end the console's shipping to Japan and other markets might soon follow suit.

Sony has yet to include a PSVR game in their PlayStation Plus lineup since PlayStation VR first launched in October. By withdrawing support for other platforms, Sony is looking to give a better PS Now experience to PS4 and PC owners. Are there any games coming for free you are excited to play? As well, the PS4 has also far surpassed the now-discontinued Wii U (roughly 13.5 million sold since November 2012).

While a popular feature and something that keeps Sony on par with Microsoft and their Games with Gold service, it's not always possible to please everyone. For nearly a year, it sold at a loss amid criticism that Sony had priced it very high. Therefore, Sony chose to stop its production in Japan.

Sony has not revealed any details about the rumored Vita successor being called PlayStation Vita 2. Till date, from 2006, there are around 84 million units that are sold.

At this time, it isn't clear if shipments for the PS3 is going to end for the American and European markets as well. However, statistics show that PS4 has now managed to sell around 60 million units, so there are big chances that it might soon overtake the previous console.
