Florida proving hard to beat at Women's College World Series

Texas A&M Opens Play at Women's College World Series Against Florida

Washington softball's season came to an end Sunday afternoon after a 5-2 loss in the semifinals of the Women's College World Series to No. 1 seeded Florida at USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium.

LSU now switches to the bottom bracket and will play at 8:30 p.m. Saturday night against the victor of an elimination game earlier on Saturday between OR and Baylor.

GAME 9 - LSU (47-21) vs.

OR got some much-needed insurance runs in the top of the seventh, as Camuso knocked a two-run double to extend her team's lead to 7-4. Taran Alvelo (33-7) pitched a complete game for Washington, which advanced to winners' bracket play on Friday. Drew Mendoza tied it with a homer to right, and JC Flowers' one-out single scored Matt Henderson with the go-ahead run.

Kayli Kvistad had two hits, including a homer, and three RBIs for the Gators (58-8), who are vying for their third national title in four years. This is the first time these two teams have faced each other this season.

The sophomore, hitting sixth in the batting order and leading the Aggies in batting average, on-base percentage and runs batted in, came to the plate just twice in the contest. After the miscue extended the inning, Julia DuPonte hit a two-run home run for the final 5-2 margin.

Instead, A&M missed a golden opportunity and Florida put up two runs in the bottom half of the first, giving the Gators an early cushion, allowing Barnhill to go to work with less pressure. Florida would add four more runs in the seventh inning. The Huskies won the national title in 2009.

The Women's College World Series wraps up the second round on Saturday.

"Congratulations to Washington. Obviously a great team, and we've battled them many a times here and many a times in general".

"I knew it was going to be either an obstruction play or a called out", Quinn said. Florida (2014 & 2015) defeated Washington, 5-2, while Oklahoma (2013 & 2016) rallied past OR, 4-2. "I was just kind of going in there and getting comfortable on the mound and just going after batters because I knew my teammates had my back on the field and when they were hitting", Barnhill said.

The Sooners (59-9) will play top-seeded Florida tonight to start the best-of-three championship series. Jordan Roberts was hit by a pitch.

The Sooners bring a great deal of momentum into the matchup, playing behind junior Paige Parker, the first pitcher in NCAA history to win her first 8 WCWS starts.

Overall, Florida is now 13-1 at the WCWS since 2014, which is the most wins in the country during that span.

The other bracket is Oregon, Washington, Baylor and Oklahoma. GAME 10 Game 6 loser vs.
