Intel: 'We want to bring VR to Esports' With The Challenger League

The 4 to 10-core processors will be available for pre-order beginning on June 19 and will start shipping to consumers the following week

The finals in 2018 will be held in Poland.

It looks like VR will finally be entering the world of eSports with the VR Challenger League presented by Intel, Oculus, and ESL.

While the first couple of E3 2017 press conferences were a bit of a disappointment for virtual reality (VR) news, the last couple have greatly improved matters.

Intel's Kaby Lake Core X-series processors, from 4- to 10-core CPUs, will be available for pre-order beginning on June 19 and will ship to consumers the following week.

Intel will provide all of the gaming PCs to each player and team, with Senior VP and General Manager of the Client Computing Group at Intel, Gregory Bryant, saying: "Intel's involvement in esports and the gaming community has spanned more than 15 years, and we're always looking for ways to take the player and fan experience to the next level". It also saw the reveal of a new, $1 million Intel Grand Slam prize, which will awarded to the first team that wins four qualifying CS:GO tournaments in a 12-month period. The first event to count towards the Grand Slam prize will be the upcoming $250,000 ESL One Cologne, which will take place at the Lanxess Arena from July 7-9.

The new league will feature two new VR games for players to compete in.

New technology platforms (which VR still is, despite years of development) require optimism and experimentation from developers and hardware makers to grow and thrive, and that's exactly what the VR Challenger League represents. Linkin Park Destination powered by Spatialand and Intel will help the band extend its social media engagement with fans via a curated experience in VR - from the studio to on tour to anywhere in between. You should consult other information and performance tests to assist you in fully evaluating your contemplated purchases, including the performance of that product when combined with other products.
