Dems say they'll slow Senate work over secretive care bill

Obamacare in 2018 Many will pay the price

While Senate Republicans are busy drafting their health care plan behind closed doors, The Hill has speculated on where they might be headed.

Meanwhile, Senate Democrats are planning to highlight the secrecy surrounding the Republican bill, saying they will debate the issue "late into the evening" in a series of floor speeches Tuesday.

Senate Republican leaders are under fire from all sides for blocking debate on their health care bill - the details of which remain largely unknown - before forcing a vote on the legislation by July 4.

Portman's coffee meetings are usually quiet, uncontroversial affairs attended by business groups or curious tourists, but Neiman sees it as a rare opportunity for activists to tell the Senator not to vote for Republicans' health care bill.

McConnell is indeed busy, according to Senate Republican calendars obtained by The Intercept.

That matters: In order to protect the Senate's ability to pass the bill under budget rules that require only a simple majority rather than 60 votes, the bill's savings must at least match those of the House version.

Up for re-election in 2018 in a state Hillary Clinton won, Heller is perhaps one of the most vulnerable Republicans in this health care debate. Many Republican senators have pushed for a more gradual phaseout in their bill, as well as preserving certain protections for preexisting conditions under the ACA not maintained in the House bill. A "Vote No" to any health care bill that cuts or caps Medicaid is a message our senators need to hear along with a plea to reject TrumpNoCare and any bill that repeals the Affordable Care Act. The NRSC says the event was planned to benefit the election campaign of Sen.

Democrats are quick to point out that the Affordable Care Act was debated openly with dozens of public hearings and amendments over the course of a almost a year before they brought the bill to a vote.

"The situation in Nevada shows that chaos and instability in healthcare does not help the Republican case for free market reform - it undermines it", Gingrich said.

So far, Democrats have had a tough time getting their message out as the Russian Federation investigations are dominating news coverage and reporters are talking primarily to Republicans in a health debate that relies only on their votes. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office has said the House measure would raise costs for many older and lower income people while causing 23 million people to lose insurance over a decade. But GOP senators still disagree on a number of key issues, such as what to do with Obamacare's Medicaid expansion, taxes and tax credits. Other lawmakers also expressed frustration about the line from Trump, according to the report. The plan has not been made public!

"I think it's being written, uh, by someone somewhere but I'm not aware of who or where", Sen.

"Health care is priority No. 1 right now", said Nicole Gill, executive director of Tax March, which organized more than 100 rallies across the country on April 15.
