Toronto Raptors re-sign Serge Ibaka to three-year, $65 million deal

Point guard Kyle Lowry, the fifth-ranked free agent by CBS Sports, has chose to stay with the Toronto Raptors, his decision coming only hours after Serge Ibaka agreed to a new deal with Toronto on Sunday morning.

Ibaka's contract suggests the Raptors could also be nearing an agreement to retain free-agent point guard Kyle Lowry, as USA Today's Jeff Zillgitt indicated late Saturday night. His projected deal would be for three years at $27 million per season.

Ibaka was dealt from the Orlando Magic to the Toronto Raptors midseason past year, and the Raptors are expected to make a strong push to keep the 6-foot-10 power forward. The 31-year-old has aged like wine, averaging a career-best 22.4 points, 7.0 assists, and 4.8 rebounds in his 11th National Basketball Association season in 2016-17. At various points over the past year, Lowry had been considered, at least by some fans and media members, a candidate for a max contract.

Losing Lowry represented the worst-case scenario for the Raptors, as the point guard has established himself alongside shooting guard DeMar DeRozan as one of the most lethal backcourt combos in the league. This can allow Toronto to clear out a ton of salary then to reset if they want.

What do you think about the Toronto Raptors re-signing Serge Ibaka?

Toronto clearly hasn't changed its thinking.

The Raptors defeated Milwaukee in the first round of the post-season before being swept by Cleveland in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

Why is that? According to an appearance that ESPN's Zach Lowe did on Bleacher Report's "The Full 48" podcast, teams are concerned about Ibaka's listed age. He previously played for the Oklahoma City Thunder, with whom he began his career in 2009.
