Yankees overcome Colon in 5th for 6-3 win over Twins

Pittsburgh Pirates left fielder Starling Marte takes the field for an opening day baseball game against the St. Louis Cardinals in Pittsburgh. Marte is eligible to return from

We were just as guilty of sophomoric humor as everyone else prior to Bartolo Colon's first Minnesota Twins start on Tuesday's "Sports Talk with Craig and John" on KWSN. He departed after four-plus innings and gave up four runs on eight hits. At the very least, Hughes' season is over after 14 games and nine starts with a 4-3 record and 5.87 ERA.

We cued the circus music, poked fun at how hefty and old he was, and called him a clown, if not perhaps a boost to a Twins roster and season that has a pulse in Mid-July, but could use a jolt. "When you don't put the pitches where they're supposed to be, they hit you hard".

"I feel happy", Colon said through an interpreter after the game. "As far as command, hopefully it's better [next Monday] than it was [Tuesday], and hopefully I can do a better job".

"I've had those thoughts [about retirement]".

Twins fans gave Colon a standing ovation as he walked on and off the field.

When Colon was signed a couple weeks ago, we would be far more excited and focused on those stats than his punchline appearance if he was twenty-something and thin. LMFAO's irreverent "Sexy and I Know It" thumped during Colon's warmups at Target Field, the 45th major league ballpark at which he's taken the mound.

It was Colon 514th major league start and the Twins were the Dominican pitcher's 10th big-league club.

Colon took the loss during his first start with the Twins on Wednesday, giving up four runs on eight hits over the course of four innings against the Yankees. Brian Dozier tripled home a run, Miguel Sano scorched a pitch 420 feet into the bullpens for another, and the Yankees walked in a run. He is the 28th pitcher and 11th starter used by the Twins in 2017.
