Tillerson not quitting, says bond with Trump good

Tillerson 'I'm not going anywhere'

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said he isn't "going anywhere" when asked about media reports that he was increasingly fed up with President Donald Trump and considering stepping down.

"I'm not going anywhere", Tillerson told reporters said as received Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani.

The sources acknowledged that Tillerson could have been venting after a tough week, but his frustration is just the latest in a long list of times he has butted heads with the president and his administration. The network quoted anonymous sources as saying Tillerson told people close to him that he would leave his job by the end of the year.

Tillerson's comments Wednesday indicate he is prepared to remain in his post, at least for now.

"He does، however، serve at the pleasure of the president، just as any Cabinet official،" she added، in what could be taken as a nod to the president's open criticism of Attorney General Jeff Sessions and speculation that he might resign، too.

The difference of opinion has been most evident in Trump and Tillerson's views on the ongoing diplomatic fallout between the Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Nauert said that Trump addressed the Boy Scouts Jamboree at Tillerson's invitation، but the secretary could not attend.

But tensions persist. In addition to disputes over staffing, Trump has expressed exasperation over Tillerson's insistence that the administration certify Iran's compliance with its nuclear deal with world powers.

"The Secretary has been very clear he intends to stay here at the State Department", spokeswoman Heather Nauert said at a briefing Tuesday.

"He is deeply engaged in that work", Nauert added.

Tillerson's time away from Washington also comes at a precarious time for global relations.
