Elon Musk's AI bot beats world-class gamers at Dota 2

Dota 2 - OpenAI Blog

According to the OpenAI website, their bot has taken down SumaiL and Arteezy as well, the two Dota players best suited to facing off against a bot one on one. OpenAI's future plans include preparing their bot for the complete 5 vs 5 Dota matches.

"We've created a bot which beats the world's top professionals at 1v1 matches of Dota 2 under standard tournament rules".

"This guy is scary", Dendi repeated during play as the bot whittled down his health.

"Our bot is trained entirely through self play".

The OpenAI bot appears to run off a modified version of a genetic machine learning algorithm, meaning it evolves and learns as it plays and discards inferior versions of its code (the company wasn't specific with its language, but a programmer friend of mine who also plays Dota said it sounded like a genetic algorithm).

In accordance with the technical words of the company, Greg Brockman, the bot is able to perform the game of the enemy, and actively learn on their own.

The billionaire said that when someone is interested in issues of level of safety using bots, now is the time to prepare.

"They're pretty bad", one player said. "Vastly more complex than traditional board games like chess & Go", tweeted Musk. Still, OpenAI's not stopping there.

A video introduction for the bot showed various (human) Dota 2 players sharing their opinions on bots. "Just wait for next year's International", Brockman said. Developers at the startup claim the AI learned to beat top Dota pros after just two weeks of real-time learning. If you'd like to work on the next phase of the project, consider joining OpenAI. His thinking is that eventually, AI will be smarter than human beings, and that the creation of them must be done in a safe, regulated format.
